Though the majority of this shawl is simple and satisfying garter stitch, you will need to be competent in understanding and using short rows for the scallop border. Video tutorials are included in the pattern.

Construction
The Pimpom Shawl is worked top down starting with an icord tab cast on. Worked flat in one piece until the scallop border. Scallops are worked individually using German short rows and bound off using an icord bind off method. This shawl was designed for my daughter who has many pet names, one of which being ‘Pimpom’.
Gauge and yarn
Each size has been designed to use as much of a whole skein of yarn as possible, this means if your gauge is not correct you may run out of your MC yarn before completing the first section. If this is the case, don’t panic! Use the ‘modify’ section to adjust the border accordingly.
Make sure to check the meterage of your yarn as not all yarns are created equally, you’re looking for 400 - 425m per 100g for fingering weight held double and minimum 210m per 100g for DK. You can also try using light worsted held single, or fingering and lace held together, making sure you have the right yardage for each strand.
A range of size is given for the wingspan as this greatly depends on how much you block your shawl. A bigger size can be achieved but density or ‘squishiness’ may be lost. The child sample was gently steam blocked to its natural, minimum size, whereas the adult sample has been blocked to its maximum size. Though density is lost, you also achieve more drape.
